We were commissioned by the Welsh Government following our successful involvement in the UEFA Champions League Final 2017 in Cardiff. Our client was keen to understand the key lessons learnt in relation to transport communications for events drawing on our experience for UEFA and also previous events. We undertook follow-up research with the Cardiff community in relation to their travel behaviours during the event and extensive in-depth discussion with local stakeholders to develop a road map for quality transport communications to the public for events. A key recommendation within this road map is the development of National Transport Communications for Event Guidelines for Wales which will be used by local stakeholders to help ensure that the transport communications programme for future events in Wales is of the standard required to ensure appropriate travel behaviours both for those going to the event and for those not going to the event and needing to navigate around potential disruption.
