WHO WE WORK WITH

London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Travel Demand Management

October 2008 to September 2012

About the project

Prior to working with In the Round members of team provided a range of services for the Travel Demand Management (TDM) Team during the London 2012 Games. A change in travel behaviour of London businesses, residents and visitors was required to create additional space on the transport system for the arrival of the 11 million or so spectators. Our clients were the Olympic Delivery Authority and Transport for London.

Terri Lynam held the role of TDM Marketing Communications Lead. She developed and delivered the UK's largest travel behaviour change campaign called 'Get Ahead of the Games'. This award winning £20m campaign was aimed at influencing the travel behaviour of those living, working and playing in the area but not going to the Games. The campaign included the implementation of the full range of marketing communication services associated with an integrated campaign including advertising, PR, digital and social media and market research. The Campaign which won many industry awards led to a 30% change in Londoners travel behaviours. Another key headline from the Games was the development of the highly successful @GAOTG twitter account which had over 60,000 followers at its peak.

Jon Foley was seconded to the TDM Team from 2008-2012. Over that period he performed a number of duties. His primary role was to develop and then mobilise the c£5m business engagement programme for the Games. This programme included the development of relationships with key business stakeholders including the British Chambers of Commerce, Confederation of British Industry and the Federation of small businesses in devising the approach. The programme included four key elements - working with business intermediary groups to disseminate information through their channels, one to one advice with 550 of the UK's largest employers, delivery of an extensive programme of workshops and conferences and the development of a range of web-based and other self-help resources to support businesses through the Games period.

Jon and Terri were also responsible for coordinating the full TDM programme in the two largest non-London venues (Eton JDorney and Weymouth) and also the background demand activity adjacent to the football venues across the UK.

They also supported the development of Games time operations plans and were senior managers in the TDM Hub.
